Study Components

The study contains five primary research components.

 

1. Occupational Exposure Assessment

The Occupational Exposure Assessment will analyze current and past exposures to dust from taconite operations and other relevant components, as well as, evaluate existing procedures to control worker exposures.

2. Mortality (cause of death) Study

The Mortality Study will investigate the rates of death and death from specific causes among taconite workers.

3. Incidence Studies

The Incidence Studies will compare the incidence of diseases of interest among the taconite workers to other groups or the general population.

4. Respiratory Health Survey of Taconite Workers and Spouses

 

The Respiratory Health Survey of Taconite Workers and Spouses will evaluate current workers and spouses for lung diseases associated with breathing dust.

5. Environmental Study of Airborne Particulates

 

The Environmental Study of Airborne Particulates will assess types and levels of various dusts in multiple locations on the range.
