Follow Up Information

All participants received a copy of their test results along with a copy of their chest X-ray. Participants were sent a letter explaining the results of their individual tests and indicating whether any findings should be discussed with their own physician. If an acute, serious abnormality was detected, warranting further medical attention, one of the licensed physicians associated with the Respiratory Health Survey immediately contacted the participant (and the local physician if specified by the participant) to explain the findings and offer recommendations about follow up treatment.

 

Abnormalities or incidental findings from these tests were reported to the participant and their physician, if so specified, but follow up care or treatment of these findings were the responsibility of the individual participant. There was no payment for follow up care or treatment from the study.
